20/10/07
Staffordshire 0 @ 29 Warwick - 2pm
Warwick Men's Lacrosse now move to (1-1) for the season after a victory at Cryfield this saturday. The game was won by warwick's face-off men Seb Croft (16 from 17 - 0.941) and Mike North (9 from 10 - 0.900) while Aaron Fox was 1 for 1 (1.000). This domination allowed for a much offensive possession which was led by finalist Toby Dodson who recorded his highest point score of his Warwick career with an 8 point game (8,0).
The game opened with a goal from long pole Jon Treacy, his first for the University, after his succesful clear led to a fast break and when no slide came he promptly buried a ripper into the bottom left.
Warwick jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, and quickly brought it to 13-0 at the half. Superb for Warwick where the attack combination of Dodson (8,0), Ainley (2,3), and Aris (6,2), who combined for 21 points on the day. The midfield was spearheaded by the combination of Croft (5,2) and Mike North who recorded his highest point score of his Warwick career with 7 points (1,6). Many of his assists came from successful fast breaks after his performance at the face off-x.
The defensive unit held strong, shutting out Staffordshire University, Tom Riddlestone recorded 5 saves on the day (1.000) and continued his strong form.
Staffordshire University are a debutant team in the Midlands League and the showed much promise for the future, and no doubt they will prove to be stronger opposition in the return fixture next year.
Warwick now have a weeks break until their West Midlands Cup game against Bath on the 28th at home. This is likely to be one of their biggest games of the season, so make sure you make it down to Cryfield at 2pm to catch all the action.
