WARWICK WOMEN DOMINATE CAMBRIDGE TO OVERTURN LAST YEARS DEFEAT
10/11/07
Warwick Women 12 @ 3 Cambridge 2nd
Warwick Women’s 1st Vs Cambridge. We arrived with a positive attitude but nevertheless with last year’s score of 12-3 to Cambridge at the back of our minds. With a strong side on both times and as mentally and physically psyched as we all were, it was set to be a good game. Play had started and the draws were headed Warwick way every time, giving us a powerful start from centre Tish Bryan. Although at the beginning we didn’t utilize this and the opposition gained possession we soon overcame this and got some good ground ball pick ups from Tish and excellent high takes from Toks Ogunsanya.
The game saw some excellent hustle for those ground balls in midfield that were especially difficult to pick up as a result of the long grass and the Warwick back-up was sensational with great communication being shown from the defence through to the midfield.
Tiredness began to set in but with some great ball movement in the midfield we matched Cambridge’s pace and more than doubled it, with some excellent drives to goal from Nay Whittaker and Millie Reid and some fantastic assists from Sophie Lovat, we were leading convincingly at half time.
Warwick started the second half with just as much enthusiasm, and there were some sensational goal clears from Chloe Bensaid that brought the ball directly into the midfield. There was magnificent attack positioning throughout, with some fantastic goal-assists between Alice Williams and Sophie Lovat and Nat Jones and Emily Maclennan. The movement throughout the Warwick side, from the defence → goal was consistently fluid and the lacrosse played was of such a high standard that a win for Warwick was to be expected, despite the irony of it being 12-3 to us!! A fantastic match, a fantastic team and a fantastic score!
Season record: (2-0)
