WARWICK CONTINUE 2008 ROUT WITH ANOTHER DEMOLISHING
02/02/08
Warwick Men's 32 @ 1 Staffordshire
Playing for the third time in eight days Warwick continued their strong 2008 form by blowing past Staffordshire by a huge margin. Leading the points on the day was captain James Aris (9,4) who had a dominant display in attack. Warwick were aided by Tom Riddlestone (6,1) who used his left handed abilities well in an unusual role for him in attack after switching from goal.
The goals came thick and fast throughout the game with the third quarter being the most impressive scoring 12 for no answer. Despite this Staffordshire proved to be much improved since the last meeting between the two sides, with a much more structured defence. However Warwick too have improved and are now that much more slick and efficient on offense, with fast break goals proving too much for the Staffordshire defensive unit. This was aided by another dominant day at the face-off X for Seb Croft who won 31 of 32 face-offs (0.969) while Mike North again looked strong with 3 from 5 (0.600)
Jason Nazareth looked strong in goal, conceding only the one. However the story of the day was of Phil Dawson (1,1) who scored a right handed ripper from up top on his debut to tally his first points for the club. It is great to see new second team players making the step up to the first team and performing well.
Warwick now face a tougher end to the season with a big game against Nottingham on the 6/02/08. If they can continue to score freely while keeping the defence tight then things look good for the team.
